Philanthropy Events: Second Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Benefit

CDC's Business Responds to AIDS/Labor Responds to AIDS programs were a sponsor of "An Enduring Vision," the second annual fundraiser benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the National AIDS Fund on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at Capitale in New York City. The worlds of business, music, fashion and Hollywood came together to recognize the Elton John AIDS Foundation, in support of its domestic HIV/AIDS grant-making programs through the National AIDS Fund.

The unique evening included an intimate 35-table dinner followed by a private performance from Sir Elton John. The benefit was presented by AT&T and Pfizer, with additional sponsors including DELTA Airlines, MAC Cosmetics, MTV Networks, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, Tanqueray, Ian Schrager Hotels, Global NAPS, The Boston Consulting Group and American Express.

"'An Enduring Vision' allows us to raise critical dollars for HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs through our partner, the National AIDS Fund," stated Sir Elton John, founder and chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. "The evening, taking place in the great city of New York, [is] not only a celebration of the hard work and dedication that has [resulted in] 2, 471 grants nationwide, but will enable us to significantly increase that number to help fight this tragic disease."

"An Enduring Vision" represents how a synergy between nonprofit organizations, corporate America and entertainment can join forces successfully to raise funds in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In 1993, the North American-based Elton John AIDS Foundation established a collaborative effort with the National AIDS Fund, a Washington, D.C.- based organization with 29 Community Partnerships across the United States. This collaboration was impacted by the tragic increase of HIV/AIDS. The grants are issued as a challenge to the National AIDS Fund's local Community Partnerships, which are used to leverage an additional $2 of local money for every $1 provided by the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
