Manager/Labor Leader Training: Labor Leader

What Do Labor Leaders Need to Know?
AIDS robs the workplace, the union, the family, and the entire community of a person during some of his or her most productive years. Labor leaders need to know how to respond appropriately and compassionately. Specific strategies can reduce employee fear, work disruption, and customer concern.

Labor leaders need to know how to encourage community service and volunteerism; educate labor leaders, workers, and their families; promote safe and healthy workplaces; protect workers' benefits; and prevent HIV. Labor unions also have legal obligations to members with disabilities, including HIV/AIDS, under Federal law.

Labor leaders may need to demonstrate universal precautions and to comply with OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards for infection control.

Use the Labor Leader's Kit to help you in the following areas:

  • Workplace Policy
  • Staff/Worker Education
  • Family Education
  • Resources

Act now. Do not wait for HIV/AIDS to act on your workplace. You can implement a workplace policy before your organization is confronted with a problem.
