Manager/Labor Leader Training: Manager

What Will Managers Need to Know?
First and most important, managers need to know the laws that affect HIV/AIDS in the workplace (Federal, state, and local) so that they honor the rights of the employee and manage the concerns of the organization in compliance with the law. Managers need to respect requests for confidentiality and make reasonable accommodations, as they would for any employee with a disability.

As they are workplace role models, managers need to know how to respond appropriately and compassionately. Specific strategies can reduce employee fear, work disruption, and customer concern. Managers also may need to demonstrate universal precautions and to comply with OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards for infection control.

Use the Manager's Kit to learn about the following areas:

  • Workplace Policy
  • Employee Education
  • Family Education
  • Community Service
  • Resources

Lead your business's response to HIV/AIDS. As a manager you can prepare to act, rather than react.
